The Christmas season is in full swing, and I couldn’t be more chuffed. With Thanksgiving falling so late this year, I started some of my planning a little earlier than normal. Seems gift guides are really on fire this year across the ‘net, so I only procured one: Gifts for Her—which are really things that I would love. Holiday home decor and creating memories with my family and friends is what I get the most excited about, however.
Last year, I hosted a kickoff for a progressive holiday dinner party with some local friends, and it was such a blast to plan and enjoy that we couldn’t resist making it an annual tradition. We started at my house for hors d’oeuvres, moved down the street to another friend’s place for dinner, and wrapped things up at a third friend's home with dessert. Talk about a fabulous way to celebrate, right?
Each host brought their unique style to the table, making it so fun to experience three completely different vibes in one evening. The best thing about a progressive dinner is that each host gets to go all out with food, drinks, and decor, focusing on just one part of the night.
After years of sharing event inspiration on 100 Layer Cake, I can’t tell you how much joy it brings me to design my own intimate gatherings, pulling from the endless creativity I’ve admired over time. This year, I’m channeling major monochromatic red vibes for my ‘Red Haute’ soirée. Think bold, chic, and totally on fire—see below!
I am going to incorporate lots of red candles with red accents like pomegranates, cherries and tall crimson poinsettia arrangements, like this one, using floral foam cones. Poinsettia plants are ubiquitous with the season, so you can find them at almost any local grocery store, Target, or even Home Depot. And the price won’t break the bank. Clipping the stems and placing them in the foam cones is a unique way to display the plant that we are all used to seeing in a cheap foil wrapped plastic pot.
Monochromatic reds help you toe the line between classic and on-trend, allowing you to try out the latest viral designs while creating something you’ll look back on and be inspired by for years to come. I love getting a chance to bring my styling skills to the table, so to speak, and to bring a virtual moodboard to real life… Especially during the merriest season of all.
Below, how to add sizzling reds to your own home this season…
red bows with ties, set of 6 | red velvet tree skirt | honeycomb ornaments | twist taper candles | mini holly berry wreath | faux peony arrangement | red holly berry tree | red placemat | mercury glass ornaments | holly berry stem | glass candlesticks | red pillar candle
