Food as decor, handwritten paper design, and a black, white and green color trend
It's all in the May Monthly Slice.
Welcome to May’s Monthly Slice! If you’re new here, it’s our editor’s note on all things noteworthy in the world of home, parties, and weddings this month.
May already?! While the internet is ablaze with Met Gala fashion today, we’re looking at the freshest trends as to try as you plan summer soirees, from a modern twist on a classic color palette, to how to use food as décor in a major way, and the paper trends to set the tone for your wedding or party. Plus on a side note, Lulu and Georgia just announced their new registry and are giving Behind the Veil readers 20% off their gorgeous products to celebrate. Get the code at the bottom of this newsletter.
Black, white and green weddings and events
We’ve always loved a good black and white wedding, but this new take is anything but classic. Pairing black tie fashion with pops of spring green, flowers and produce as decor, and some very inventive food styling brings the party to life, literally.
PS: See more GREEN entertaining and fashion picks (along with another favorite party theme) right here.
The key to reinventing black and white with greenery as your only color? It’s all about texture. Case in point, our newest inspiration board…
Think fluffy babies breath (as seen in this wedding), dangling and draping greenery and big crepe bows or textures of tulle. We can’t get enough.
Food as Decor
It could be economy related, or just a new trend, but we’re seeing more and more food incorporated as decor, into weddings and events big and small. Florals are still big and always will be, but as flowers are increasingly expensive due to inflation, floral and event designers are getting creative with other ways to make a table sing. Extravagant food installations with baguettes, fruit and veggies as centerpieces, sculptural cheese and butter, cakes taking center stage on a dinner table, and garlands of citrus are moving into the spotlight.
Proof that virtually everything on your table can be edible, not just what’s on your plate.
Butter me up 🧈
Remember a couple years ago when all those butter boards starting popping up? Consider this their evolution… Butter sculptures, butter adorned in florals, truly anything goes. Don’t mind if we do.
2024’s paper design style: handwritten notes
Handwritten invitations have been popular for years, with a whimsical style dominating the trend in the last two years. Now, the style is softer and more casual, almost messy if you will. It lends an effortless, stylish, not-too-perfect feel to set the tone for the event. Pair it with fun little accent illustrations, a watercolor wash or a luxe handmade paper for added interest.
Scribble, but make it sophisticated. Find this trend extending from paper to textiles, like table runners and cloths!
On a final (gorgeous note)… you heard it here first: one of our favorite interior sites, Lulu and Georgia, just announced their entrance into the registry space. Eeee! Now you can add all their home and entertaining goodies to your gift registry and start building that dream home. Everything is dreamy, but I especially love their bedding, decor and so many unique entertaining pieces it hurts.
